Hello everyone!

Here are some of the biggest things to emerge over the last week.

As always, please feel free to comment below on any items I have missed, or topics you would like me to cover in more detail.

1.     Scottish Leadership Election

Nominations close today in the contest to succeed Nicola Sturgeon as the leader of the Scottish National Party and to become First Minister of Scotland.

The nominees are: Humza Yousaf, Kate Forbes and Ash Regan.

Yousaf is the current bookmakers’ favourite. He very much represents continuity, and the public should expect much of Sturgeon’s approach and policies to continue with him at the helm. She appears to be backing him as her successor, even though she previously said that she would stay out of commenting on the contest…what a surprise…

It is crucial to note that Yousaf was previously supportive of the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill and it seems likely that he would continue to challenge the government’s use of Section 35 of the Scotland Act 1998 in blocking that legislation coming into force.

On a more positive note, both Forbes and Regan appear to be strongly opposed to gender ideology gaining formal footing in Scotland. Both have spoken about their concerns regarding the aforementioned Bill.
