Hello everyone,

Here are some of the biggest stories to emerge over the last week:

1.     Childline Safeguarding Concerns

I have gone public with a number of safeguarding concerns from Childline (a branch of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), following a dive into some of their online content.

Some of these were concerns that I raised with senior management when I was a volunteer counsellor in the organisation. As many of you will know, I was subsequently given the boot. For further details on what happened to me, click here.

Childline has Message Boards, through which children can talk to each other and are meant to act as some sort of peer support.

However, there are a number of serious issues with the content on these Boards.

The Message Board entitled ‘Gender Identity’ has just under 16,000 posts on it. These are all publicly available and so anyone (both children and adults alike) can access them. It is worth highlighting the fact that although the Message Boards are for children only, it would be very easy for an adult to create an account, pose as a child and engage in the messaging.

I conducted a random sampling of messages in this Board and found the following:
